Such a fun course, my favorite one so far!

This course is easy to follow and gave me so much clarity and confidence.

Before this course I was afraid to even try coloring my drawings. I just didn’t know how to start. But now I know exactly what to do and I am confidently drawing and coloring, not only characters but other subjects too.

Calluna

I’m enjoying drawing my characters so much more since taking this course!

This course helped me take my first steps in coloring with alcohol markers and colored pencils. And although it can be challenging, it’s so much fun and the results are beautiful. A whole new drawing world truly opened up!

I can wholeheartedly recommend this clear, cheerful, and compact course!

What material do I need?

  • Basic sketching tools

A simple pencil and eraser, no special brand or type needed. A kneaded eraser can be helpful to lighten your sketch before coloring (so the graphite doesn’t show through). I use this one.

  • Paper

Use good-quality marker paper for the best results. In this course, I use this Ohuhu Marker Pad. Of course, other sizes and brands can be used too.

  • Alcohol markers

For this course, I recommend the Ohuhu Honolulu 36 Skin Tone Set.
You'll find the set here at BeCreativeShop, or here at ohuhu.com.
In addition to the colors in this set, I use two yellow markers: Y27 en Y111 (previously known as Y1 and Y2). However, the 36 Skin Tone Set also includes yellow tones that you can use as alternatives.

I use the brush/chisel tip combination, but I personally work mostly with the brush tip, so the brush/fine tip combination works just as well.

Please note: until May 27 2026, you will receive 10% off your purchases at Ohuhu.com when using the code INGESILLUSTRATIONS.

  • Colored pencils
I use Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. I have the full set of 120 colors, but you definitely don’t need them all. For portraits, I mostly stick to earthy tones; pinks, browns, yellows, grays, oranges, warm purples, and black. I prefer using softer, more natural shades rather than bright colors. For detailed highlights I use a Koh-I-Noor white charcoal pencil, or a white gelpen.

Do you need these exact brands and colors?

Not at all! If you already have similar materials, feel free to use those. Just make sure you’re working with good-quality supplies. That really makes a big difference in your results.

Hi, I'm Inge!

Hello, I'm Inge, an illustrator from the Netherlands. I haven't been drawing all my life, and I didn't attend extensive art schools or universities. In reality, I started drawing just a few years ago and taught myself how to do it. And believe me, my first attempts were far from perfect. They were, in fact, quite ugly.

That's how I know that drawing is not about talent. It is just about practice. If I could learn to draw, everyone can. But, I've also come to appreciate how valuable a little guidance can be.

That's why I've made it my mission to introduce others to the joy of this relaxing hobby and provide them with the guidance they need to create stunning drawings that will amaze even themselves. As of today I'm very happy to have already guided over a 1500 people with my products, and I hope to help many more!

  • I have no drawing experience. Can I still follow the course?
Absolutely! This course is suitable for both beginners and illustrators with some experience. Don't worry if you have no prior drawing experience, I start from the very beginning and guide you step by step. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish with just a few helpful tips.

  • Do I need the exact same markers and pencils you use?

No, not at all! You don’t need the exact brands or colors I use in the lessons. Feel free to work with materials you already have. Just make sure they’re of good quality, as that really makes a difference. The techniques I teach work well with high-quality alcohol markers and colored pencils, but cheaper or low-quality materials may not blend or layer as smoothly.

Of course, you can always try your own materials first before investing in anything new. Just keep in mind: if your results don’t turn out as expected, it might be due to the quality of your supplies.

  • Can I follow this course using watercolor or other materials instead of markers and pencils?
You can, but keep in mind that the course is specifically designed for alcohol markers and colored pencils. The techniques I demonstrate, like blending, layering, and adding highlights, are tailored to those materials.

That said, if you’re comfortable with watercolor or another medium, you can absolutely follow along and adapt the lessons to your tools. Your results might look a bit different, but that’s totally fine! You’ll still find plenty of tips that apply to your work too, like how to choose a color palette, which tones to use for shadows and highlights, and how to create depth and volume in your portraits.

  • How long do I have acces to the course?

You'll have access for 6 months. In this time period you can rewind the video as many times as you need to fully understand the material.

  • I'm worried I don't have enough time to finish the course. Can I extend my acces?
I deliberately set a limited access time for the course because I truly believe it will encourage you to complete the course and get the maximum benefit from. So let the approaching deadline be a good motivator to make the most of your time! If you still can't finish it within the given time, you'll receive an email with an offer to extend your course access towards the end. But, I encourage you to keep working on it: you got this!

  • Which language is the course available in?
The course is taught in English, and all lessons are spoken in English. English subtitles are included to make it easier to follow along. Currently, the course isn’t available in other languages.

  • Can I sell the drawings I made in this course?
The course content, including the images, is protected by copyright. You can use the drawings for personal practice, but they cannot be sold or used commercially.
